You’ve probably heard of Genghis Khan, he conquered many countries, killed a lot of people and raped so many women while doing this — but the thing you might not yet have heard of is the fact that a lot of those women gave birth to his kids.
Nowadays, there are still people that are direct descendants of Genghis Khan. Are you one?
In this article, we’re going to take a look at the horrible conquests of the Khan Empire that flourished in the 13th century.
Who’s Genghis Khan?
For those who aren’t familiar with this man, Genghis Khan was the first Emperor and founder of the Mongolian Empire.
Being disrespectful to women and just people in general was business as usual in that period of time — powerful men had many wives and treated them like they were their personal slaves and objects.
He could basically do with them whatever he wanted.
Khan was the first one to unify the tribes in that area of the world into one big empire — under his lead, the Mongolian empire became one of the most powerful empires in world history.
He unified more than one million people in one empire — something that has never been seen before.
The Ruthless Conquests of Genghis Khan and the Mongolian Empire
In the early 13th century, the Mongolian Empire under the lead of Khan organized many conquests that led to death and tragedy for many.
His first military operation took place around 1206 when he invaded Western Xia.
They took everything out of the country and became wealthier by day.
The thing that was unique about their army was that it mostly consisted out of horsemen or the Cavalry — that’s what made them so successful because they were very skilled in fighting from horses.
This way, they could move very swiftly, and it was almost impossible to beat the army, even though it was relatively small when compared to the armies of the Western Xia.
After Western Xia, they attacked the Jin Dynasty in the Northern Part of what now is China — after that, he moved towards the west to conquer as much land as he possibly could.
Much territory was gained in the years after, and even more blood was shed during the battles.
On these conquests, he didn’t only kill soldiers of foreign countries, but he also raped and tortured many women in the villages that he raided — these women often got pregnant and gave birth to these children.
It has been found out that around 8 percent of the males that now live in the Mongolian area is a direct descendant of Genghis Khan — after a genetic research, they found out that half of a percentage of the world’s population is related to Genghis Khan.
That’s around 16,000,000 people.
The Death of Genghis Khan and the Division of the Empire
At its peak, the Mongolian Empire was the biggest empire in the world in history — there has never been a bigger country/territory owned by someone.
Khan was a fighter himself, he joined the forces in their battles and during the battle of Yinchuan, he died.
At the time of Khan’s death, the empire was at its biggest — under the lead of his successor and third son Ögedei, the country grew to its full potential — they even took a relevant part of Eastern Europe.
In the latter stage of the Empire, it was divided into three parts by his grandsons.
That’s how the big Mongolian Empire ended to exist.
